"He who does not love does not know God , for God is love. "
  -1 John 4 :8
Every time I pass over this verse I feel convinced. Because this verse is so easy to understand. In short it basically says this We are to be like God because He is perfect and since God is love we are to follow in the same way and love others. But a simple observation would be that it is against our nature to love. Because we are not of God but of the flesh. Therefore because We do not naturally practice love we do not know God. However because God sent us His love to us first by sending His one and only Son to be beat and killed on a cross we are now allowed a way to know Him. It is through believing Jesus died and rose again. But what I believe Johns point is if we really believe Jesus did what He did and His the Holy Spirit now resides inside of us something should change. And the root of that change should be a love inside of us overflowing on to everyone we meet. But this love John mentions has to be from God. Therefore it has to be so unconditional so vast so power the only explanation is super natural. Because nobody could ever be that kind, selfless, or gentle with out something else. I would also like to mention real quick that because we still live in our earthly bodies are flesh still wants us to hate and be selfish living without love. Therefore we will mess up some moments and not not love but, does that mean we don't know God? Of course not the love John is talking about is a way of life. But if we step off the path that is not good but since we know Jesus we just confess our mistake and get right back on the path of walking in Love.

Application: The biggest area of love I struggle in is patience. So this today and tomorrow I am going to pray for patience

1 John 2 :4
"He who says , "I know Him , " and does not keep His commandments , is a liar , and the truth is not in him."

When John the apostle wrote this book in a very direct manner and this verse is no different. But I would like to break it down a little bit more anyway. The first thing I would like to point out is how John made two categories of Christians. One set of Christians knows God and the other does not. I would like to point out there is no in between here it one or the other a Christian or a hypocrite. Whither they would be even considered saved as Christians is not for me to say but for myself when I read and apply it to my self I would have to lean towards if I don't follow His commandments continuously and knowingly I would not consider myself saved. Because how can I be saved if I do not know Him? And how can I be saved if the truth is not in me? I would like to make a quick sidenote here. I am not saying salvation is based of of works and only if you live perfectly in his commandments you are saved. You are saved by Jesus grace alone. But when you are saved some thing has to change and living as you used live is no longer an option and the only way is to live for the Lord Jesus. Therefore  what I am saying is if you know his commandments and choice to break them and do not truly repent I would question if you are saved. Not in a judgemental way at all but from a place of love. Because if I see someone I love in peril and do or say nothing that is not right. Yet I can think of a list of Christians who right now are in the world more than some nonbelievers and I have said nothing for fear of being considered a judgemental person. But after reading this book and even this verse I could not but help feel convinced at how I have not acted. Because a lot of the church today is believing because I believe Jesus exists and died and rose again they are saved but even the demons believe. (James 2:19) but picking up your cross and following Him is a completely different story. It is a challenge especially today because the way Jesus lived defies the way the world lives. It set things in place the make people feel uncomfortable because the darkness hates the light. So in a quick recap of you love God follow his commandments and love others Christ loved us.
